For several years, the industry has been working towards eliminating lead in electronics by July 1, 2006, as required under the European Union’s R<\/strong>estriction o<\/strong>f H<\/strong>azardous S<\/strong>ubstances (RoHS) Directive<\/a>. The RoHS<\/strong> Directive stands for “the Restriction Of certain Hazardous Substances in electrical and electronic equipment”. But complying with RoHS is actually much more complicated, as companies are finding out. There are a lot of issues, and it’s a challenge keeping track of them all, let alone implementing industry wide and company-specific solutions.<\/p>\n

As we know, the vital part of RoHS inspect is the lead, that is Lead-Free. So let’s take a glance at the definiation of Lead-Free.<\/p>\n

“For the purposes of Article 5(1)(a), a maximum concentration value of 0,1 % by weight in homogeneous materials for lead, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE) and of 0,01 % by weight in homogeneous materials for cadmium shall be tolerated.”<\/em><\/p>\n
